Christine Napoles withdraws as nomination as Party List Representative Jo Christine Napoles has withdrawn her nomination as the second representative of the OFW Family Party List in the House of Representatives, Rep. Roy Seneres Sr., OFW Family chair and first nominee, today announced. In a statement, Seneres said the young Napoles has decided to withdraw to spare the OFW Family Party List of the controversy associated with her mother, Janet Lim Napoles, who was being linked to the reported P10 billion “pork barrel scam.” Seneres did not say who would replace the young Napoles, as this was a matter to be decided by the OFW Family Party List leadership and membership. The party list group would hold a meeting shortly, he said. But Seneres said the young Napoles would remain in the OFW Family Party List to help distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). She would remain as president of the OFW Family Party List chapter in Metro Manila, her old post. “She would be very busy with OFW issues. We know she could contribute a lot to our mission and advocacy,’ Seneres said. Jo Christine Napoles was earlier chosen by the OFW Family Party List chapter presidents and ranking members to replace Johnny Revilla, whom Seneres accused of being an American citizen and unqualified to assume as the second nominee. The OFW Family Party List, through businessman Eduardo Morales, has filed a petition asking the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal to disqualify Revilla for his failure to renounce his American citizenship. The OFW Party List chose the young Napoles as the second nominee after she delivered votes for the party list group in the May 13 elections and contributed her share for the cause of the OFWs, who have been encountering problems in their foreign employment. According to Seneres, the young Napoles was a low profile person, who has been a friend of his two children way back from their college days at the De La Salle University College of St. Benilde. His two children, Roy Jr. and Hazel, later recruited the young Napoles to the OFW Family to help distressed OFWs. Seneres said he did not know her mother, adding that he came to know her and her alleged illegal activity from the press reports
