Christmas Day came with an extra gift for Ridgeland senior linebacker Ian Hayes – another All-State award. Hayes, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder being courted by Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee and Indiana among others, was voted as a Class 4A second team selection by the Georgia Sports Writers Association (AP). Hayes is one of 12 Panthers to ever earn All-State honors on the gridiron and he joins current Georgia cornerback Devin Bowman (2009, 2010) and current Ohio State safety Vonn Bell (2011, 2012) as the only Ridgeland players to earn All-State honors in back-to-back seasons. The senior had another stellar season for the Black-and-White, recording 141 tackles (79 solo) with 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass break-up, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was the only Walker County player to receive AP All-State honors this season. Region 7-AAAA was well-represented on the All-State team as Hayes was one of eight players named with four earning first team nods.
