** Church Notes** United Christian Center with Bishop Terrence Carr Get Back To God Genesis 35 We are declaring that 2015 will be a year of restoration. -Things cant be restored if you arent restored back to God -Sometimes, we lose excitement of God with our worship or service to Him -It first start with repentance (turning away and CHANGING our mindset FROM whatever is hindering us from God....not always sin) ~*~To the Text ~*~ Jacob has a Godly vision (at some level, he does what is right in Gods eyes unlike his brother who aint even THINKING about God), but his character is JACKED UP! We can look at what God told Jacob as a roadmap to how to restore ourselves BACK to God. 1. Get rid of idol gods (verse 2)- This could be anything that keeps you from God. From Facebook to your kids to an addiction. Whatever you put before God is an idol. Get rid of it. 2. Purify yourself (verse 2)- Get rid of sin from the inside out. You can mask the funk all day long. But if you arent actively putting out sin in your life and INGESTING the fruit of the Spirit, you aint doing NOTHING! Whats in there will eventually come out (Luke 6:45). 3. Change your appearance (verse 2)- God told Jacob to change his clothes. Looking Godly doesnt mean we look a certain type way. In fact, there are plenty of Godly looking folks that act like the devil himself. But your image (the way folks see you) should be Godly and representative of Him (2 Corinthians 5:20). We are supposed to be peculiar and different (1 Peter 2:9). A separation from the world should exist. 4. Distance yourself from your past (verse 3)- Getting back connected to God may mean you have to break ties with people and places that are hindering you. If you are a drunk, it may be a good idea to not hang around other drunks or at a bar. Some bridges need to get burned. Dont be scared. Burn them. When we arent connected to God, our judgement is warped, and we justify our bad behavior thinking its cute. Its not cute. I know I have put my kids and the work of parenting, homeschooling, and my other obligations before God. So today, I made the decision, to get a realignment. Just like when you go to a chiropractor, they crack your back because your spine in out of alignment, so is our spiritual walk with God. We may be walking with God, hearing from Him, still doing His work, but we just need an alignment. When your spine is aligned, blood flow is able to freely move up and down the spine. I often feel a rush afterwards because oxygen and blood is getting to my brain. The same is with God. Get back aligned in the Spirit. NOTE: The Word of God is like food. This is considered microwave food. This is second hand. Its like if I went to a restaurant, got some good food, and this is the doggy bag or leftovers.
