Churches all over have these legacy buildings. Beautiful. Stain glass. High ceilings. Lots of scroll work in the moldings. You know what I’m talking about, right? All the memories—the weddings, and funerals, and Christmas pageants. Congregations have a lot of things other than money tied up in these beautiful buildings. But one of the things mainline Protestant churches will have to avoid in the years to come is the tendency to get too wrapped up in brick and mortar monuments. You know, the tendency to believe that the church gets its identity more from the walls that surround it than by the life that pours forth from it. ~From tomorrows sermon #mainliners
