Cinemas original and only African-American cowboy singing star, Herb Jeffries, has made his transition at the age of 100. “The Bronze Buckaroo” not only sung and acted in these 1st black cowboy films, he was also the major producer of these films as well. Before he produced these western films, Herb was an internationally known jazz sing star (he was, in his time, the equivalent of John legend, Teddy Pendergrass, and Usher all wrapped up in one!). Among the great band he preform with, Louis Armstrong, Earl “Fatha Hines Orchestra and the great Duke Ellington Orchestra, which lead to their classic hit “Flamingo” (which sold over 14 million copies in 1940). Herb Jeffries movies broke down many barriers, and help to increase the opportunities for black actors and performers. He was invited to the Pan African Film Festival in 2008, where he received the Lifetime Achievement award for his outstanding pioneering work. He made appearances at the opening night, the student fest, the childrens fest, and the seniors fest, where he was received warmly and enthusiastically by a new generation of people. Brother Herb Jeffries memorial service will be Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 11:00am - 4:00pm. The Memorial Service will be from 11:00am - 12:30 and mingling and visiting from 12:30pm till 4:00pm. The location for the memorial service is at the Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine temple which is located at 17080 W Sunset Blvd. (about 200 yards east of the Pacific Coast Highway on Sunset Boulevard). The founder of the Self Realization Fellowship center, Paramahansa Yogananda’s, was Herb Guru. Yogananda helped Herb heal himself, following an airplane crash in the early 50s. Since the early 50’s, Herb was a full time vegetarian and a yogi. Herb Jeffries will be cremated and a portion of his ashes will be placed at the Self Realization Fellowship, Hollywood Hills Cemetery part of Forest Lawn, Hawaii, India, and in Africa. The Pan African Film Festival will assist in the intermit of Herbs ashes in Africa. Please come out and be apart of this memorial service for Brother Herb Jeffries.
