Citizens for Objective Public Education argues in its lawsuit that the standards promote atheism and therefore violate the separation of church and state. The state’s job is simply to say to students, ‘How life arises continues to be a scientific mystery and there are competing ideas about it,’ I think what were seeing here is the last big push of the creationist movement. Creationists got taken out of school, they failed to sneak themselves back into school under the moniker intelligent design, and now their last ditch effort is to say Well can we at least get the correct answer taken out of school too so schools wont counteract our attempted brainwashing? Hopefully theyll fail here as well, and well finally start to see some progress in science education in the US. [Edit: Just looked and realized that this article is roughly a year old. I guess I missed it when it first came out. Regardless, its still a good read.]
