Citrus Compound Strongly Inhibits Melanoma Cells: Nobiletin, a - TopicsExpress

Citrus Compound Strongly Inhibits Melanoma Cells: Nobiletin, a flavonoid compound found in citrus fruit, was shown to inhibit the growth of melanoma cells by 42% in this lab study by blocking a key enzyme (tyrosinase diphenolase) needed by the cancer cells. And this benefit is not just for the lab: a recent study out of the USA showed that people eating citrus fruit once a day, or even every second day, experienced a 41% reduction in melanoma risk. Citrus fruit isn’t just about vitamin C: it delivers several powerful anticancer compounds such as hesperetin, naringenin, quercetin, limonoids and D-limonene. Regular citrus fruit consumption has also been shown in previous population studies to significantly lower our risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, stomach cancer, throat cancer, and others. For maximum protection from skin cancer, do consider eating some of the peel: one recent study out of Arizona showed that people eating citrus peel reduced their risk of squamous cell carcinoma by an amazing 70%! So this summer if you want that extra measure of protection, make sure you get plenty of fresh, organic citrus fruit (commercial juices contain much less beneficial compounds) along with a balanced diet rich in vegetables (at least six servings daily for optimal melanoma protection!), herbs and whole foods.
