City of Columbia Response to Storm Damage and Clean up Tips Storm Damage Cleanup Tips • Do not attempt to move any limbs or debris that may be in contact with overhead utility lines. Contact SCE&G at (800) 251-7234. • If a City tree has fallen (a tree located in the City right of way), call the Forestry & Beautification Division at 545-3860. • If you notice a hanging limb (a detached limb stuck in the tree canopy), contact the Forestry & Beautification Division at 545-3860. o We consider this an emergency, as the limb could fall and injure someone or something. • Contact your insurance company if your property has been damaged. Cleanup Efforts • The City has received dozens of calls in response to the most recent storms. We will attempt to address each of them as soon as possible and have assigned extra resources (staff and equipment) to this effort. • If you need to have a private company clean up your property due to damage caused by private trees, make sure you hire a tree company who is licensed and fully insured. Before you let someone begin work on your property, ask for proof of insurance. • City staff will continue cleanup efforts and will also be evaluating trees within the impacted areas. Citizens are encouraged to call Forestry and Beautification (545-3860) and report any concerns regarding trees that may be been impacted by the storm event. Summary of Calls Received • The City has received calls related to over 100 locations impacted by storm/tree damage. • Calls range in nature from limbs down, trees blocking roadways and/or trees on vehicles and structures. • Neighborhoods Impacted: Wales Garden , Shandon. Melrose Heights, Oakwood Court, Olympia, Central Rosewood , Hollywood/Rose Hill , University Hills, South Kilbourne, Robert Mills, Old Shandon, Martin Luther King, Lyon Street, Pinehurst.
