Thank you for registering your child in the 2014 El Sereno Recreation Center Spring Baseball & Softball Program. We hope the information on this sheet will answer any questions that you may have regarding our program. BIRTH CERTIFICATES: Applies to MINOR, MAJOR, JUNIOR, ELEMENTARY & GPLA divisions. You must provide the recreation center with legal documentation that shows your child’s name and date of birth. Legal Documents accepted: US Birth Certificate (notarized foreign birth certificate), valid resident alien card, valid passport, copy of computerized school report card verifying date of birth. Eligibility for the league is determined by their age by January 1, 2014. INCOMPLETE REGISTRATION: If you do not have all the necessary documents required for registration, you will have until Saturday, March 8, 2014 to clear your “incomplete registration” status. If you do not clear your status by the deadline, you will forfeit your spot to an individual on the waiting list. LATE REGISTRATION: Once registration is full your child will be placed on a waiting list. DO NOT give payment if your child is placed on the waiting list as there is no guarantee to be placed on a team. REFUNDS: Total refunds will only be granted if program is cancelled; otherwise refunds are subject to a minimum 20% administrative fee. Refunds are sent via USPS 4 – 6 weeks from request date. CARPOOL, SIBLINGS & REQUESTING A COACH: Carpool request will NOT be accepted. Siblings will be placed on the same team unless otherwise requested. Players may not request a specific coach. Players are drafted and are not guaranteed to be placed on any specific team. EVALUATIONS: It is important that all players attend evaluations. Coaches and staff will evaluate players. EVERYONE WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM. The purpose is to evaluate players in order to establish balanced teams. If you register late, you must attend the MAKE-UP EVALUATIONS. At this time it is not known which days or times your child’s team will practice. Weekday practices are typically scheduled between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM and Saturday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Practice length varies between 1 to 2 hours once or twice a week. Due to limited practice space, practices will be held at El Sereno Recreation Center, El Sereno North Park/ La Guardia or local school. There are no guarantees as to what time and day your child will practice each week. Refunds will not be issued if your child cannot make practices. GAMES: Opening day is scheduled for April 19, 2014. Teams will usually play one game during the week and one game on Saturday. Occasionally there may be 2 weekday games, no Saturday game or only a Saturday Game. Game times during the week are usually between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Saturday game times are between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Game time will vary each week. At this time, game times and days have not been determined. TRAVELING: Teams may be required to travel to other recreation centers or schools for games. AWARDS: Each player who completes the season will receive an award at the end of league play. An Awards Ceremony will be scheduled by the coach at the end of league play. ANY AWARD NOT COLLECTED ON THIS DAY MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN TWO WEEKS AT THE RECREATION CENTER OFFICE. THE RECREATION CENTER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AWARDS NOT COLLECTED WITHIN 6 MONTHS. PICTURE DAY: Picture Day will be listed on the league schedule. Pictures are optional and not included in the price or registration. Pictures will be handed out to coaches upon delivery. ANY PICTURES NOT COLLECTED ON THIS DAY MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN TWO WEEKS AT THE RECREATION CENTER OFFICE. THE RECREATION CENTER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PICTURES NOT COLLECTED WITHIN 6 MONTHS. GENERAL INFORMATION: Your child’s coach will be contacting you sometime around the last week in March. If you do not receive a call by March 28, 2014 please call the recreation center. Please do not call the recreation center prior to that date regarding your child’s practice. We would like to give your coach the opportunity to speak to you first. Your coach will hold a parent meeting and give you all the information regarding your child’s team and practice times. PLEASE REMEMBER all coaches are volunteers and without them your child would not be able to participate. Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their team’s parents. As part of a Citywide effort to promote SPORTSMANSHIP and foster GOOD CHARACTER, El Sereno Recreation Center will be emphasizing PURSUING VICTORY WITH HONOR, by Teaching, Enforcing, Advocating & Modeling (T.E.A.M.) the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Trustworthiness: Observe and enforce the spirit and letter of the rules. Demonstrate and demand integrity. Respect: Traditions of the sport and other participants.
