City produce remarkable comeback to defeat Sunderland in Capital One Cup final The Custodian March 3, 2014 Yaya Toure’s exquisite 40-yard lob, a Samir Nasri whipped finish and a cool Jesus Navas strike, cancelled out Fabio Borini’s excellent opener, as Manchester City claimed their first silverware of the season. Borini gave Sunderland the lead against the run of play, outmuscling Vincent Kompany to smash the ball past Costel Pantilimon. Manuel Pellegrini’s men failed to reduce the deficit in the first half, but two quick goals in the second half gave them the upper hand in the game. First, Toure produced an outrageous effort from about 40 yards and Vito Mannone could only watch it dip into the net, before Nasri netted a fine volley. Sunderland tried to level the scores, but few moments after Steven Fletcher miscontrolled a ball in the City area, Jesus Navas settled the contest with a cool finish. City are on course to win four trophies technically. They play Wigan in the quarter-final of the FA Cup next week and will try to overturn a two-goal deficit at the Nou Camp against Barcelona.
