City to mark opening of new Market on Saturday, June 22. Who is going? Colourful canopies are in place and plans are set to celebrate the opening day of a new public market for downtown Sudbury, next to the CP/VIA Rail station on Elgin Street. Everyone is invited to opening day ceremonies at The Market, starting at 10 a.m., this Saturday, June 22. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays, to October 27. Opening day with Greater Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk will feature live entertainment with the Myths and Mirrors Kazzzam Stiltwalking troupe, Live Bluegrass! and Chicks with Picks on stage. Sunday’s live entertainment features the Sweet Jive jazz band and the No Sugs rock/pop cover band. Both days offer a kids’ activity corner and a choice of unique foods, handcrafts and gifts available from new and longstanding Market vendors. The inaugural year of The Market at the newly purchased Canadian Pacific property on Elgin Street will shelter outdoor vendors and shoppers under canopies until more permanent structures are constructed in future phases. Indoor vendors are working from mobile retail units that provide protection from the weather. For more information about The Market, please visit greatersudbury.ca/market.
