Class XII students caught in a fix Govt.decision to postpone exams hurried? Tuesday, 14 October 2014 Srinagar: The government’s decision to defer annual board and under-graduate exams till March next year has not gone well with majority of the students belonging to Class 12th as they believe their professional careers will be affected by this. Students who were eyeing to appear in professional exams like All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), JEE and Common Entrance Test (CET) are now skeptical about their future if exams are held in March. “Our one year will be gone if exams are conducted in March. We will not get time to prepare for these crucial exams which is our and our parents dream,” said Ruhail, a 12th class student. “No doubt students from Srinagar and south Kashmir suffered due to floods, but that is a small chunk. But destroying the future of 90 percent students at the cost of 10 percent is no way a wise decision,” said Faiza Rasheed, a class 12th student. Students are of the opinion that the exams conducted at National level will not be deferred at any cost so that means we have to compromise and succumb to this decision of government. “If state government is really worried about our future they should talk to authorities at Center who are conducting different professional exams. Then we don’t have problem in appearing in exams that will be conducted in March,” said Rafiq Ahmad, an engineering aspirant. The education experts of the Valley also echo the same views, saying that government should reconsider their decision. Bashir Ahmad Dar, Former Secretary BOSE said that they should have postponed exam till November-December but deferring it to March is a bad decision. “All the professional exams are conducting in the month of April-May. But when exams will be conducted in March, the result will be declared in a month or so.How much time students will get for preparation. This decision is anti-student decision.” Dar said. He said that majority of the schools have already completed their syllabus and students were ready for exams but dragging it to March will spoil the whole scene. “10th and 12th class students were well prepared for the exams. But now they have to remain idle for five months. Usually 12th class students prepare for professional exams in these five months. But now they have to revise the same syllabus again and again,” said Bashir Ahmad. Expressing their anger on social networking sites, scores of students have flayed the government decision. “When foolish people and so absurd people are at the helm of affairs these unexpected steps to ruin the career of lacs of students is expected,” wrote Ess Ahmad Bilal. “It is real shame for govt. They are ready for elections but not for the exams on which future of thousands of students stand. Please for the sake of ALLAH don’t play with their future,” wrote Manzoor Ahmad on social networking site Facebook. It is worth to mention that after 10th and 12th class, students in Valley prefer different courses. “After completing 10th class many go for polytechnic engineering while some female candidates prefer nursing.Similiary, after passing 12th class majority are of the students appear in professional exams. But if exams are conducting in March their future will be ruined,” said Ghulam Mohd Mir, who is teacher by profession. Meanwhile, Director School Education Kashmir Mir Tariq Ali said that the decision was taken by the government for the benefit of students. “Most of the students have lost their books and they don’t have any study material. The decision was taken in view of the present situation,” Mir said. The Government in a bizzare moved first announced the schedule for exams only to withdraw it later through a cabinet decision.
