Click LIKE and SHARE IF You Love Iris. If you have, or indeed would like, Bearded or Flag Iris then now is the time to propagate new plants from the existing old Rhizomes that sit just on the surface of the soil. You will need a sharp gardeners knife, a hand, fork some compost and a watering can full of water. Clean around the tops of the Rhizome and look for small leaves coming off them. Take your sharp gardening knife and cut the rhizome to give you a chunk with several small leaves on. Ease the roots out of the ground using the hand fork and lay the cutting to one side. Sprinkle some compost around the disturbed old roots and fork it in and water well. Prepare the soil in the place you want the new Iris to grow by mixing compost 50/50 with some soil and gently press the cutting into place. Water well and leave well alone. Keep it watered during dry spells and next year you will have a new plant. If you have a friend or neighbour who will let you have a cutting you can swap plants. youtu.be/c2dDlDjN6rE
