Climate Change: It’s Personal is an unusual fb group with unusual rules. Climate change is generally discussed from an objective, scientific, fact-based angle. In the group, we will discuss the subjective, psychological, social, and spiritual experience of climate change. The emotions it stirs, the relationships it alters, and the hopes and fears it inspires. Ultimately, this group has a political goal: to help members get more active, or more effective in their activism: we want to help people convert their feelings of despair, terror and anger into action to fight climate change, and save civilization from collapse. If you adamantly disagree with these goals (either because climate change is a scam, because there is no hope/ activism won’t help anything, or because civilization is not worth saving) then this is not the group for you. We welcome feelings of despair, doubt, and hopelessness. But if you are confident that you “KNOW” that civilization cannot be saved, and are here to spread that “TRUTH,” that is not constructive. We have tried. Its not. Thank you for respecting this directive. Talking about the personal side of climate change takes courage. The guidelines of the group have been designed to keep people feeling safe and respected, in order to allow people to share personal feelings and experiences. The moderators are here to make sure that the group stays a safe, respectful place. • RESPECT the expressions of others. In many Internet venues, on FB and otherwise, the conversation is argumentative. Not here. This is a forum for expression, listening, and understanding. It is not appropriate to “disagree” with someone’s feelings, or explain to them why they are “wrong.” All personal experiences and feelings are acceptable, here, and we appreciate their expression. Remember the wisdom: If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. • If the Koch Brothers entered this group and wanted to discuss their personal, internal experiences with climate change, I would expect participants and moderators to give them FULL respect. Why? Because this would provide the best chance of getting them to change! Yelling at them and banning them from the group would change nothing! https://facebook/groups/Climatechangeitspersonal/
