Climate change: scientists attack David Murray for serious slur - Peter Hannam. 1/11/13. Environment Editor, The Sydney Morning Herald. David Murray, a senior banking figure, has delivered a “serious slur” on leading Australian scientists in televised comments and he should withdraw them, a leading body representing climate scientists said. Mr Murray, a former head of the Commonwealth Bank and inaugural chair of the Future Fund, told ABCs Lateline programme on Wednesday that “the climate problem is overstated” and that “there needs to be some consensus” about the science. Asked by host Emma Alberici what it would take to convince him, such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which involved dozens of Australian scientists, he replied, When I see some evidence of integrity amongst the scientists themselves.” **(Blair, the only people who regard this as an insult are those like yourself, whose heads are firmly planted in the sand or, dare I say, in the trough!!! - CJO) Blair Trewin: The society regards the remarks of Mr Murray as being a serious slur. Mr Murray said, “I often look at systems and behaviours as a way of judging something, and in this case, to watch the accusations that fly between these people suggests theres been a breakdown in integrity in the science. The Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society said it is “disturbed by Mr Murrays remarks”. “The IPCC reports are an outstanding example of international science co-operation, rigour and transparency,” said Blair Trewin, the societys president. “They are subjected to multiple levels of review by experts both inside and outside the climate community.” “The society regards the remarks of Mr Murray as being a serious slur on the integrity of the many Australian and international authors of the IPCC report, and views them as highly offensive to those authors and to the profession at large,” he said. **(The IPCC has absolutely zero credibility. Pull the other one, Blair. - CJO). Mr Murray, who is reportedly a frontrunner to head Treasurer Joe Hockeys planned inquiry into Australias financial industry, has previously said there was “no correlation between [global] warming and carbon dioxide”. Prime Minister Tony Abbott last week said it was complete hogwash to draw a link between the early season bushfires across much of NSW and climate change. Climate change is real, as Ive often said, and we should take strong action against it, Mr Abbott told Fairfax Radio. **(Rubbish, Tony! Tell me what possible strong action can humans take to actually CHANGE the climate? Stop talking bunkum and admit what you already know; that AGW/CC is absolute rubbish and a gigantic hoax!! - CJO). But these fires are certainly not a function of climate change - theyre just a function of life in Australia.
