Cloth Diaper Tip of the Day: As your child’s absorbency needs - TopicsExpress

Cloth Diaper Tip of the Day: As your child’s absorbency needs change, you might find it is getting tricky to get your child’s car seat buckled around a bulky cloth diaper. The most important things to look at from a safety standpoint are whether or not the buckle is locked correctly and if the straps are too tight or too loose. You will definitely need to loosen the straps for bulkier diapers, then tighten them for trimmer diapers. One of the easiest things to do when you need to increase absorbency is to use trim yet highly absorbent inserts made from hemp or bamboo so you can have maximum absorbency without a lot of added bulk. This way you don’t have to worry about struggling to get the straps buckled and having to take the time to adjust them with every car ride. Another way to get around the bulk is to use whichever diaper you have been using and just change your child more often. This works great as long as you don’t get distracted and forget, then end up with a soaking wet car seat cover that is a royal pain to remove and wash! This is where a waterproof seat cover comes in handy but not all car seat manufacturers make them and most Certified Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) DO NOT recommend adding anything to the car seat not approved by the manufacturer. I personally incorporate all of these. I prefer trimmer diapers so I try to change my toddler every 2-3 hours but I do use bamboo doublers which help with absorbency AND have a Diono Dry Seat waterproof protector on my Diono Radian RXT. If you want to use a waterproof seat protector, call your car seat manufacturer to find out which one they recommend, if any.
