Club Notes Joe Rowland is the winner of Men’s Captain (Paddy Bergin) Prize. It was an early start for many of the qualifiers on Sunday morning. The course was playing long with some tricky pin positions. However this did not stop Declan Russell (11) from bringing in an excellent 61nett. Other leading scores were James O’Lone 68nett, Michael McCormack 66 and Joe Rowland with 73. And so to the playoff 9 holes; the leading 3 players Declan Russell, James O’Lone, Michael McCormack however failed to repeat their earlier good form and it was Joe Rowland playing steady golf, 2 over par for the 9 holes and was the winner by half a shot from Aidan Doran who had an excellent Captain’s Prize playing off 3 handicap. At the presentation on Sunday night President Liam Shanahan stated that Captain Paddy was one of the most hardworking Captains, also commended his work with our 2 FAS workers on the course. Captain Paddy firstly welcomed his own family to the presentation. He thanked all who helped him especially Competition Sec Fabian Jones, Handicap Sec Proinnsias Loughnane, John Geary, Sean Egan, and Clodagh Jones for taking in the entries; Paddy Tynan, Alex Crawford and Bernie for supplying goodies on the opening day; also Course Staff, Bar and Catering Staff. He gave special praise to Proinnsias Loughnane and Damian Shanahan for their work with the juveniles and their organising last Sunday of a very successful Juveniles Captain’s Prize. He then presented his prize to the winner Joe Rowland. Joe congratulated Captain Paddy on his beautiful prize. He also thanked John Quinlan and his course staff on the condition of the course for the competition. With formalities over, Johnny Keegan started playing music and later on some of our members did their party pieces. Thanks to caterer Danny Parker for supplying finger food. And so the Captain’s Prize is over for another year and we hope that Paddy has fond memories of his wonderful day.
