Coach, whats the difference between mindfulness and mindset? Is there one? I hear both of those words a lot lately. Good question! Heres my answer: The two are related, but not the same. Both are key to peace. Think of Mindset as your smart phones operating system (Android or iOS) and Mindfullness as an app. in the phone (iTunes or Google maps). Mindset is the core, basic foundation for the human. Mindfullness is a tool, one of many, to use to support Mindset. Mindfullness is a technique where you get *present* to the NOW moment and you accept (acceptance is KEY) whatever IS with no resistance or judgement. Mindset is your minds overall perception of whats going on, whats happened in the past and what the future will bring. Your responses and reactions and why you have them. Its the operating system and it takes work and training to shift. Its not easy. Example: A person drives in traffic daily. Every couple of days this person gets angry and annoyed and sometimes yells at other drivers. THEN they remember to breathe and get present which calms them down. Their ability to insert mindfullness helps, BUT their mindset is such that they still get really triggered in traffic. Until theres a shift in mindset, the mindfullness is a band aid, and a rather effective one! Example 2: Jan. 1 someone joins a gym. They are all gung-ho! Then 3 weeks later they get news their company is downsizing. They start panicking and eating nervously every night. They stop going to the gym. Every evening they meditate to calm down and thats helpful, but they are still nervous all day and too worn out at night to exercise. Mindfullness is helping calm them down, but the Mindset of fear is louder than reason because the thoughts arent changing. So thats the difference. Im trained specifically to coach mindset shifts. Its not easy and my clients often say, Coach how do you DO this?? and I smile. Its my blessing & purpose. I hope this helps yall understand these two words that sometimes get misused, especially as a marketing gimmick. Love, Coach Prime
