Todays devotion, The Greatness of God, was written by Maria Kuntz, a Senior at MLHS. It is based upon Isaiah 40:1-11. Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:9-11 As the Christmas approaches, we all tend to focus on our to-do lists. Buying gifts, putting up decorations, and baking cookies are just a few of the things we worry about getting done. But what is the main focus this Advent? The birth of God’s One and Only Son, Jesus Christ is the best example of portraying how great our God really is. Isaiah reminds us about the greatness of God, Who cares for us and guides us in the right direction. He leads us towards Him and His kingdom so that one day we will be together in Heaven. Remembering our Savior’s birth and focusing our eyes on Him coming into the world creates an image of happiness and hope for what is to come. God sent His One and Only Son into this world to set an example, care, and save us. Hearing this great news is quite special because we did absolutely nothing to earn such a miraculous gift. It is important to remember how great our God really is. We know that through Him we are cared for and are constantly receiving His great love and grace. Through Him, sharing this good news to others is a great way to keep our focus on Him over this Advent season. Because of God’s greatness, we are all saved through His Son, Jesus Christ, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we are called to shine His light to others so we can reflect the greatness he bestows upon us. Prayer: Dear God, Thank You for showing your love and grace through the sending of your One and Only Son Jesus Christ to come into this world to save us. Please be with us through this Advent season to keep focus on you and your greatness. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
