Cocalico Football Fans, here is my Monday night take on the upcoming playoff game vs Lancaster Catholic. I think it is going to be a close game, hopefully the starters are ready to go a full 4 quarters. I dont think this years Catholic team is quite as strong as last years team was, but I am not sold on the fact that Cocalico is a better team this year either (defensively I think we are but although the fullbacks have performed well we lack the home run hitter at that position this year for the most part, so far anyway). Catholic has some size on the line which doesnt concern me as much as the size they have at receiver vs our shorter cornerbacks. I havent seen Catholic play this year but the fact that they played an all AAAA schedule and beat a Penn Manor team that is still alive in AAAA and hung real close to Wilson speaks well of them. They seem to be well balanced on offense, not relying on any one player to carry the load. My key to the game is how Cocalico plays in the early going, as we seem to have a habit of getting ourselves in a hole early on in games vs better teams (i.e. Manheim last year and this year and Catholic last year) then after getting down we come around and play decent, but other than last year vs Central we couldnt quite make up the early deficit. Bottom line if we show up on a mission from the opening kickoff, dont rely on drastic tactical changes or trick plays to try and outwit the opponent ( i.e. stick to what we do best), and play disciplined, mistake free football (i.e. no holding or blocking in the back penalties on long runs), I think we will do alright. Feel free to voice your opinions as well.
