Colin Linden will be bringing his special brand of virtuosic blues/soul/gospel/country music to the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. Colin is highly-respected in the music industry for his artistry in playing rocking electric slide to the most delicate acoustic fingerpicking. Although extremely versatile, he never strays far from the deep blues that first inspired him as an 11-year-old kid, when his mom took him to see – and meet – the great Howlin’ Wolf. Colin has played on over 300 records and produced over 70 albums for others. When this date was booked with Colin, we didn’t know that he would be fresh off touring with Bob Dylan on his “Americanarama” tour. Colin joined the tour this past July and described his experience this way: “My background with everything I do, playing with Bruce Cockburn or Emmylou [Harris], primarily my background is really in 1920s and 30s blues. That colors everything that I do. Every day of my life I am thinking of Charlie Patton, Son House, Blind Blake, Blind Willie Johnson, Reverend Drew Davis, Robert Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Kokomo Arnold. Those guys are in the forefront of my thoughts every day, and I think Bob is extremely familiar with that kind of music and its had a pretty profound impact, I think, on what he does. I think he liked it when I utilized those kind of ideas playing with him.” Colin’s current production and touring schedule is sandwiched around his role as assistant to music producers T-Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller on the hit television show “Nashville” where he serves as guitar coach and advisor to the actors on the show. Colin has a long association with T-Bone Burnett, going back to his work on “O Brother, Wherefore Art Thou?” and including a role in the Coen Brothers’ film “Intolerable Cruelty” with George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
