Colonialism has shaped the colonial nations we so proudly - TopicsExpress

Colonialism has shaped the colonial nations we so proudly represent today. Colonialism has shaped the clothes we wear and what hairstyle we use. Colonialism shaped the language we are forced to speak. Colonialism has shaped the music we make and listen to. It shapes the way we dance. Colonialism has not only shaped the outside world, but also our thoughts about the world. It has shaped the belief that white Jesus is our saviour. It shapes the belief in spirituality in favour of the scientific knowledge of our ancestors. It has shaped the belief that we were savages and barbarians before the European invasion of 1492. It has shaped the belief that white skin equals beautiful and brown skin equals dirt and ugliness. It has shaped the belief that without Europeans we would be lost in this world. Colonialism is both material and mental. Colonialism determines what passport you hold and what thoughts you have. Colonialism keeps millions of our people asleep. Colonialism also determines what food and drink you consume (usually fatty, fizzy and poisonous). Decolonization means we go against the grain. It means we begin to think for ourselves. Decolonisation give us our humanity and rids us of dependence on Europeans. Decolonization must be mental and material. It means that we begin to understand who we are and what our place in this world is. It means that we begin to plan the overthrow of colonial institutions to replace them with our own institutions. - Tawantinsuyu Nation
