When the Roots Show When people dye their hair to change the color or to hide the gray it takes a constant process of recoloring in order for the roots not to show. I know I shouldn’t be paying attention to these kind of things but I can’t seem to help myself. I have found myself wanting to suggest that it might be time to visit the hair stylist again. Christians also need to be in constant process of re-evaluation of their relationship with Christ and a review of their faithfulness to God. Many, if not most people in our churches do not have a basic foundation of biblical knowledge. We haven’t been doing a good job of teaching the rich stories of our faith. For example, who were Jesus’ disciples? Can you name all twelve? What were the names of Jacob’s twelve sons? I dare say not many people could answer those questions. We can demonstrate how to text on our cell phones; we know which nights our favorite TV shows air; and we can probably summarize with accuracy the latest novel we’ve read. But are we tending the roots of our faith? We have too many other things to do and our roots are neglected to the point of no return. Paul was right, you know, we have to continually rebuild and enrich the roots of our faith so our lives in Christ take on a rich meaning and our thankfulness will abound and be shared.
