Sydney Community College Starting on the 18 Jul 2013 - 29 Aug 2013 6:30pm - 9pm 7 sessions, 17.5 hours total Tutor: Samantha Whittingham Fee: $239.21 Rozelle Campus 2A Gordon Street (Corner of Gordon Street and Victoria Road) Rozelle 2039 Drawing from the human form provides an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Learn to draw using a variety of exercises, drawing techniques and materials, which will enable you to see and develop your self-expression. This program is designed for students to engage in a number of different ways to draw the human figure. Each class provides an life model. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different mediums in creating their own unique style. Each lesson will focus on a particular technique in order to develop a better understanding of how to interpret the figure. Students are given demonstrations in various ways to use different mediums and materials to create a broad range of drawing techniques in life drawing. During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Parts of the agenda may be adapted to suit the needs of the class. Week1. Gestural drawing, Blind Contour. Week 2. Composition, Weight of line, Mass. Week 3. Use of tone in creating Form, Shape. Week 4. Proportion, Foreshortening use of Perspective. Week 5. Use of lighting in creating Shadow and Contrast. Week 6. Looking at Tension within the figure. Week 7. Use of Structure in creating form Form. Perform exercises to familiarise student with the materials Use warm up exercises with emphasis on the gesture of the pose Learn to see positive and negative space Explore expression using line, tone, shape and volume Look at each student’s style and individual’s approach Objectives The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows. By the end of the course the student will have: Students gain an understanding of proportions of the figure. Students gain skills in how to measure the proportion of the figure. Experimented with a variety of approaches to the human form, to develop personal expression Students gain an understanding of specific drawing techniques such as: Mass, Form, Tone, Line, Structure, Gesture, Perspective and Composition of the figure. Students gain an understanding of materials and mediums in interpreting the figure You will need to bring: Materials List A2 or A3 Cartridge drawing pad, around 110gsm paper (get one with a stiff backing) Clips – Large Bulldog Clips x 2 Pencil sharpener (normal, not the ones with a container) For the Daytime Students, please bring the following extras: 4B or 6B graphite stick (the ones that look like ordinary pencils, not the thick, stubby ones or the water soluble ones) Erasers – normal, not a putty eraser Charcoal For the Evening Students, please bring the following extras: Charcoal – Compressed and willow – round type Pencils – Pencils 6B and 8B Stanley knife for sharpening pencils Students are eligible for a 10% discount at Tillys Art Supplies, Darling St, Rozelle.
