Come, and let us return unto The Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.- Hosea 6:1 Two nights ago, my family and I were attending a night service in our district youth camp. My daughter Allyson sat with a friend a couple of rows ahead of Rebecca and me. As I listened to the guest minister, Rebecca tapped my arm and I followed her gaze to see Allyson standing in front of her seat waving a toy in the air with all the free spirited behavior of a stubborn five- year old. Her actions seemed to suggest that she had forgotten she was at church and had been somehow translated to an imaginary playground. I left my seat and moved as inconspicuously as possible to where she stood and scolded her sternly for her lack of respect for the service in progress. I returned to my seat and watched as Rebecca (whose demeanor can be much more fierce than mine) beckoned to Allyson by moving her lips and using that God-given gift of squinting her eyes in such a manner that Ally would have been foolish to continue in her childish actions. Within seconds, Ally had made her way to our pew. Her eyes were filled with tears and her bottom lip was poked out in an expression that is unpleasant and just a little cute all at the same time. I was not surprised that she was pouting. I was not surprised that she was crying. I WAS surprised when she climbed into my lap and wrapped her arms around me to pull herself as close to me as she could. I learned something of my walk with God in that moment. I have often been stubborn, selfish, proud. My Heavenly Father has often sternly rebuked me for my childish ways. Still, I have longed for His embrace- even when my heart was wounded by His anger! And every time I came to Him with a broken heart, He just wrapped me in His arms and loved away the pain!!
