Come for our Escape Poverty Simulation to step into the shoes of the poor briefly. Maybe you can find an answer to this question here: goo.gl/o51ycQ Anyway, my humble take on this issue. Well, there is really a fine line between what is appropriate and what is not. For example, electronics that are on the brink of malfunctioning is not, even though I am still using one that gives me a blue screen once in a while, but I wouldnt put someone else through that pain (and also the disappointment). However, if it is items that can be mended easily and cheaply, and of course is a need or want, then I believe that you should give it away, even if it is things that you do not want because you are lazy to mend. I myself have seen the kind of items thrown away at the thrift store in Singapore, while it is really pales in comparison as those I have seen at the thrift store in Canada, I guess, the people actually took the effort to bring it there. And just maybe, if they could put a little more effort into sorting, it would be awesome. One mans trash is another mans treasure, so I must agree it will be a pity if we do not give our preloved items just because we are afraid that it is not good enough for others. I have given some used t-shirts (which I could still wear but I have one too many) to my friends in the village before. And I have seen how happy they can be. I have friends who gives me clothes that they cant wear anymore and I am happy to accept too. But unless you give, how would you know? Besides, that is why we should give through a organisation, cos there will be some QC, hopefully. Finally, mindsets should be set right. When you give away an item, it is not a donation. It is not about who is more well off and superior.
