Comedy Industry Notice: This is for you newbies. As an opener or middle (or what ever you wish to call it) youre a paid intern. I remember my first few years at that level and making it work even at the low pay when starting out. Learn to be professional or you may spend your entire career in that position. Big No Nos: -Cancel on bookers last minute to make a couple extra bucks elsewhere, - -Get drunk at the gig -Complain about the commute (if you have a full comedy club in your house please ignore this rule) -Look like you just rolled out of bed when youre about to take the stage. -Using blue humour when the gig specifically asked for TV clean material. You have to shave off the square edges of your act to make your art fit the round hole of a paid gig, not the other way round. Break these rules, well youll be an intern for a long time. (posting on behalf of a reputable booker who has had to deal with shit openers lately) P.S. Please note bookers talk to other bookers. Have a great day kids.
