Comic Term/Character of the Week – The Guardians of the Universe: In the beginning…(of the DC Universe) there was a planet called Maltus. The Maltusians had reached the level of intelligence humans have now long before the earth was even formed and then went on to surpass it. The Maltusians had achieved great scientific and physiological advancements including telepathy, limited immortality, etc. One of the Maltusians built a “telescope” of sorts to see the origin of the universe. The resultant energy from viewing the “big bang” seeped into the present moment this Maltusian (named Krona) was watching from and fractured the known universe into a “multiverse”. Infinite copies of our universe that diverge at various points (alternate realities). The Maltusians, feeling responsible for Krona’s blunder, devoted themselves to policing the universe and containing the resulting chaos, eventually becoming the Guardians of the Universe and creating and administrating what became known as the Green Lantern Corps.
