Coming in February, at The Edge Sports Performance, a new Hard-Core Ladies Weight Lifting Class called Iron Maidens (IM). This class is a small group weight training program led by personal trainers. You will learn proper exercise form, and the fundamentals of weight lifting. This class is going to teach women to not be intimidated by the weight room and lifting heavy weights! This class is going to be so much fun!!! Look for information coming soon on how and when to sign up. Space will be limited. I have ladies come to me everyday and ask me if lifting heavy weights will make them bulky or masculine, or will they make their joints hurt and everyday I answer them with an emphatic NO! The fact is lifting weights does none of those things. What lifting heavy will do is enable you to live healthier and be stronger!! When you think about your fitness goals, strength training will not only help you reach them, but help you reach them faster, than just running on a treadmill!! A few reasons why lifting heavy is so good for women, you get more fat loss while lifting because you burn calories during and after exercise. Also, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn during the day. As you build lean muscle mass, your body uses calories more efficiently. As you build muscle, your body begins to take a nice hourglass shape. With Cardio alone, you lose fat and muscle, and this is where you lose curves. Strength training enables you to lose weight while keeping those feminine curves and firming up all at the same time. Bone health is a huge benefit of heavy lifting in women!! As you age, you are at risk of losing both muscle mass and bone mass. Resistance training is a great way to combat loss in those areas and keeps the risk of osteoporosis down. One of the best reasons to lift heavy is Stress Relief!!! When you are at the gym, it is your hour! You are there for you and you alone!!! Also research has shown that those who regularly strength train tend to manage stress better than those who do not exercise. All of us want to feel strong and confident in everything we do, from playing with our kids, walking up a flight of stairs, moving a piece of furniture, or dealing with a stressful career. Resistance Training can benefit with all aspects of your life and help build a stronger, healthier more confident you!
