Coming up soon: Local Food Forum 2 August 3rd, 10am – 4pm Dunningham Suite, Dunedin Central Library You are warmly invited to participate in a public meeting to discuss the formation of a Local Food Network in the Greater Dunedin region. The meeting will build on the work done at the original Local Food Forum held in Dunedin late last year. The aim this time is to get a wide range of people together so that we can identify some specific strategies and actions to enhance and strengthen the many positive local food initiatives already under way in our communities. Last year’s forum suggested that there is enormous energy “out there” and that through the creation of a Local Food Network we can make a substantial collective contribution to the future of our city and region. The talking has been done – it’s time now to roll up our sleeves and get to work. By the end of the day, we want to have laid the groundwork for a series of action plans covering every aspect of our local food system, including: production (at any scale, from the home garden to broad-acre farming); distribution; education; advocacy; access (to food and land); and communication. The Forum has been designed to stimulate discussion and draw out the many positive ideas we know to be out there in our community. So be prepared to put on your thinking caps and make your contribution to our collective future. Please note that, although there will be breaks for refreshments, this will be a non-catered event. Hot drinks will be provided, but you will need to bring your own lunch and snacks (maybe even some local food to share?).
