Coming up this Friday night at Access is another installment of Hard Dance Classics that im DJjing at. To mark the occasion every day leading up ill tell you a little story about some of the tunes that are classics to me. #4 Yoji Biomehanika - Hardstyle Disco. In NZ the sheer mention of any european harder music in the 00s was met with a similar facial expression as that of a 4 year thats just shat its pants. To be polite.. In this country German Trance, Hard European Trance, Acid Trance and Hardstyle have been the ebola of Hard Dance since day dot. By no means did that stop me from playing as much of it as humanly possible without clearing the dfloor. To be in the minority of a musical genre that was filling superclubs the world over yet bagged by the mean~111 of Aucklanders was always a fun challenge. Hardstyle Disco was one of the tunes that managed to bring a smile to the face of the most hardened Passion Records aficionado. The rolling bassline and soaring Hard Trance riff made this a permanent fixture in my record box for 2003/2004 and blended well with the must play Vicious Circle back cat that a hard house crowd expected. Yoji is without doubt a superstar of that time and sound and although he paid several visits to NZ it wasnt until 2006 (also his last time here) that I managed to play on the same line up. A real honour for me. I would own the majority of his tracks on record label Hell House Recordings and admired his ability to keep reinventing sounds to create something new and exciting involving acts such as System F, Scot Project & Lab 4 on it. Not long to go now!
