Commencement is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and this year, about 6,000 parents, family members, friends and loved ones – more than 1,000 more than in prior years – came to campus to honor their graduates. This outpouring of pride and support was quite impressive, but it also put a significant strain on the local infrastructure, resulting in traffic problems. We apologize to those who, as a result of the gridlock, experienced stress on this special day. As we sit down to evaluate the ceremony and begin to plan for next year’s event, we will certainly take into consideration what transpired on Sunday and look for ways to prevent this from happening again. We share your pride in your graduate and hope your memories of the day will focus on all that he or she accomplished while at Western.
