The contracts were awarded to: Snook Haven Park utility improvements: D.R. Swanson Company of Port Charlotte will perform the work at Snook Haven Park, 5000 E. Venice Ave., Venice. The project includes the construction of a new central water and sewer system, which will service the existing restaurant and public restroom facility, as well as provide future connections to other park facilities. The 2.5-acre park on the Myakka River is now served by an undersized septic system and potable water is provided from a well with a reverse osmosis treatment system. The nearly $1.076 million construction project will begin this month, and is expected to be completed in February 2014. SCAT bus stops in Venice: Gator Grading and Paving LLC of Palmetto will construct five SCAT bus stops in Venice. Four will have shelters, benches and bicycle racks. Venice Avenue at Capris Isles Boulevard; and the north side of E. Venice Avenue at Jobs Etc., 897 E. Venice Ave. The fifth stop ¾ at the north side of E. Venice Avenue and Capris Isles Boulevard ¾ will have a bench and bicycle racks. Sidewalk reconstruction, site re-grading and drainage improvements also are included. Construction of the $97,840 project is expected to start in August, with substantial completion in October 2013.
