Commissioned by the Community (Acts 13.1-12) Send Called People - TopicsExpress

Commissioned by the Community (Acts 13.1-12) Send Called People (Acts 13.1-5) God’s work can only be done effectively using “called” people. What is a “calling”? All believers have two callings. First, we are called to salvation. Secondly, we are called to a particular ministry, not necessarily preaching. In Ephesians 4.11-13, Paul shares about God’s “particular” calling, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Who does the calling? God does. How does God call? He calls in many different ways based upon the person and the need. Peter was called on the Day of Pentecost to preach the first revival sermon and became the first Gospel preacher to the Jews. Paul was called on the road to Damascus to become the first Gospel preacher to the Gentiles. John was called from the inner circle of Christ to become the Gospel preacher to the future glory of the new heaven and the new earth. They all were Holy Ghost filled, activated, and motivated. We see this same work of the Holy Ghost in today’s lesson in verses 2, 4, and 5.
