Committe Night . The role of being a Councillor or Mayor can be a busy one . Its not a 5 day a week or a 9 to 5 role . Last night it was committee night at Fairfield Council . Hundreds of pages of staff reports were before Councillors , to read and make a resolution on . Fairfield City Council consist of 12 Councillors and 1 popularly elected Mayor . For committees the council divides itself into 2 separate committees , with 6 councillors attending each meeting and the Mayor attending either or both . Services committee provides reports for adoption relating to the general day to day service delivery of the city . Waste management , leisure centers , roads , libraries , fees and charges, parks and the list goes on. Outcomes Committee provides reports generally on strategic matters , future and present . New parks , changes to development policy , new infrastructure and the list goes on . Last night in the outcomes report , among tens of others , it considered future planning , setting aside the land for numerous new carparks in our city and the levy to be payable by developers, to fund them in the longer term. Another key report , was relating to the grant cuts by the federal Goverment to local councils . Fairfield council is expected to receive cuts of more than 3 million dollars over the next few years from the federal assistance program . The committee resolved to make savings through a number of measures to adjust for the funding shortfall . Council wants to maintain a responsible financial position, as not to impact rate payers . In services among many others items for debate , Attendances at our leisure centres and other facilities were generally stable and a new fee was proposed for developers, that requested in-depth meetings and analysis with council planning staff . The fee will go towards paying for the costs associated for providing a service . The fee has been structured as to not impact general mum and dad investors , or home owners . It relates to more complex developments, only where developers request extra council resources regarding planning guidance .
