Commonly asked questions regarding the Mawlid: 11 - How can the Mawlid be something good when the Prophet said Whoever introduces into this affair of ours that which is not from it will have it rejected? This hadith is used as evidence by those who oppose the Mawlid and also by those who support it. However, the Prophet (Sallallahu ^alayhi wa Sallam) didnt say Whoever introduces anything into this affair of ours will have it rejected, he said that which is not from it. This means that if someone introduces something to Islam which does not comply with the rules of the religion, then it is rejected. Its understood from the hadith that if someone introduces something which is from this affair (i.e. complies with the rules of the religion), then it wouldnt be rejected. Ibn Hajar and as-Suyuti have shown evidence that the Mawlid does comply with the rules of the religion, as was mentioned previously. The Prophet (Sallallahu ^alayhi wa Sallam) was the most eloquent among the Arabs, and he doesnt say things that dont give a benefit. That which is not from it is a condition for the innovation to be rejected. If this condition isnt met, then it isnt rejected. This is a confirmation that there are two types of innovations, that which is from the religion and that which isnt from the religion.
