Commonwealth games athlete (Australian rep for shot put) Kim performance testing 1RM back squat 112.5kgs! Who says girls cant lift heavy?? Its important for athletes to performance test (neuromuscular profile) regularly (when appropriate) to see strength/weaknesses of athlete, adherence to the training program, feedback to the coach to see effectiveness of program (successful programs leave Clues) and give athlete motivation. Strength diagnosis testing could include; squat, deadlift, bench press, bench pull, oh press or chin ups ... Basic strength primal patterns!! 1RM testing tests the cns ability to produce maximum force... Remember strength platforms is needed for explosive performance ... Greater strength, greater power/speed potential! (Force side of force - velocity curve) When Kim first came to WSSC she had on going back issues and had trouble with squatting to depth. 4 months on and under the guidance and coaching of head coaching Christian she has no issues with her back and her mobility/flexibility to get to depth in her squat has improved dramatically! She is currently in her off season and integrating her physical preparation work with her specific skill training to maximise her performance leading into her season!
