Community Safety Alert: Last night there was a shooting in the 4900 block of N. Lawndale in Albany Park. Over the past several weeks Albany Park District personnel have been addressing increased gang tensions in the area with increased patrol and attention to the area bounded by Wilson/Argyle and Pulaski/Kimball. From Chicago Police Capt. Thomas Karnick of the Albany Park District about last nights incident: In further response to this escalation of gang violence, greater steps have been taken to enhance both uniformed and tactical Officer and Supervisory presence and action in this area. We are hopeful that the extra Officers in the area, and aggressive action in contacts and enforcement by these Officers, will help to break some of the gang tension that is present in the neighborhood and prevent any further retaliatory gang violence.
