Community Updates for the SCBA Westport. Selectmen have signed on to the municipal Complete Streets Bill. The Westport Bike Group has been assigned to proceed on work with SRPEDD to 1. get Westport on the tip pipeline for a RTE 6 bike connection 2. plot a proposed route for Westport and report to the Selectman. The Group is also on the agenda for the Westport Point Association meeting to recruit more bike members in the next couple of months. Work continues on the "Heritage Trails" project. Coordination is ongoing with Trustees of Resorvations, SRPEDD and Fall River. Fall River The Fall River Bicycle Commission met with leaders of a BMX group in Fall River and have continued to plan for a BMX track as part of the restoration of Britland Park, and fully supported by the City. Currently Chelsea is the only municipality to have a BMX track . Bike Fall River has led weekly bike rides including Bike to Yoga Class in Westport, trip to the Work Museum in Pawtucket???, and BAB!(the 2nd Annual ride around the Southeastern MA Bioreserve- 26 miles) Most rides are held on weekends, there was a push for weekday, after work rides as well. Striping, Sharrowing and Signage of the Scholarship City Bike Route (from the UMASS ATMC on Martine Street to BCC on Elsbree Street) is nearing completion. Members advocated for a safe, comprehensive bike route on the reconstruction of Rts.79/138, for access to the Waterfront and other North/South destinations. Bike Fall River shirts are available. Fairhaven A gift account for the bikepath Committee has been set up. The initiating Bike Bus to school event on october 4 was a huge success with over 50 children, community leaders, the media, and parents participating. Sunday morning bike rides continue to be offerred by the Committee. Work is ongoing to submit a grant proposal for an ambitious program to fund infrastructure improvements including blinking beacons at two crossings, and bike lanes down Sconticut Neck to West Island, Resurfacing part of the existing bike path and creating a new off road bike path from our main path to the Wood Elementary School are two projects being investigated. Dartmouth Work is ongoing on the following projects: · Install signs along Old Westport Road Chase Road and to ensure appropriate lane widths · Develop a bicycling map · Apply for Community Preservation Fund grant to pay bike racks associated with the SRPEDD Grant. Wareham · Friends of Wareham Community Pathway will have a booth at the Cranberry Festival October 12-13 New Bedford Bike Committee The New Bedford Bicycle Committee along with the NB Parks and Rec and Mass In Motion New Bedford hosted a very successful 1st Annual Pedal Party on Sept. 21st. An estimated 150 people (including Mayor Mitchell) attended the event which included a bikeparade through the city, a bike rodeo event for kids, and numerous giveaways. Two members of the NBBC (Tony Ionno and Sarah Clermont) attended the New England Bike/Walk Summit in Providence on October 4th Members of the NBBC will assist Mass In Motion New Bedford with organizing another Bike to School Day at Brooks Elementary on Wednesday, October 9th as part of International Walk and Bike to School Day, an effort sponsored by Walk to School Day in the USA, National Center for Safe Routes to School, International Walk to School Day and MassRIDES. Marion Marion Pathway Committee will be meeting with Selectmen re: the final piece of property needed to connect the Mattapoisett-Marion section to public ways and Washburn Park. Acquisition of that land is dependent on a related project moving forward. The Committee plans to continue to pursue an alternative parcel. Marion Recreation Department, in cooperation with Mattapoisett Recreation Department has started a new Tri-Town Bike Riding Group. Currently multiple rides of different distances for riders of different ability levels are starting on the same day and time. The iniating ride scheduled for October 6 was rescheduled (due to weather) to October 13. Mattapoisett The Town hopes to complete negotiations and schedule a 25% design review with MASSDOT prior to Town Meeting November 18 The Bike Path Committee will discuss an application for additional design funding from the Community Preservation Fund. The Mattapoisett Recreation Committee endorsed the Tri-Town Bike Riding Club and will work with Marion to ensure its success. Tmeetings of people interested in "Bike Friendly Mattapoisett" have occurred. We are focussing on mapping a set of bikerides for a range of abilities. These bike routes will be used Friends of the Bike Path will be participating in the Alternative Gift Fair sponsored by the Friends (Quakers)
