Companies & Investments Huawei granted as supplier to three nationwide mobile operators Huawei has been chosen as a telecom equipment supplier to the three nationwide mobile operators, Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), Yadanapon Teleport and Norway’s Telenor, one of the two firms selected for the two nationwide telecommunication licenses in late June. The other licensee, Qartar’s Ooredoo has yet to disclose the name of their supplier, but is expected to make an announcement next week, according to U Soe Thura, a representative of the company. Discussions are ongoing between Huawei and Ooredoo over the topic of supplying telecom equipment, according to Huawei. In 2012, the US Congress submitted proposals to ban Chinese mobile network suppliers Huawei and ZTE, emphasizing the connection between the firms and the Chinese government as a threat to the national security. Australia and India also joined the list of countries banning Huawei and ZTE because of security concerns. Huawei has denied its involvement in any Chinese government intelligence gathering efforts.
