Competing in cycling events - just to clarify some basic rules etc for competing in response to comments after the Hill Climb. Nearly all TTs and Hill Climbs are organised under the rules of CTT (cycling time trials) - you do NOT need a BC license to enter but, apart from the occasional event such as our Hill Climb, do need to be a member of a Club affiliated to CTT (Bury Clarion is affiliated).cyclingtimetrials.org.uk Most road races, competitive track events and circuit races are run under BC rules, for which you do need a licence - you get one by paying the appropriate fee to BC. You do not have to be a member of a club, you can be a "private" BC member.britishcycling.org.uk/membership For some events you can pay for a day licence, which is useful if you only want to do the occasional event. If you are over 40 then the LVRC (league of veteran racing cyclists) organises races based on age group. To race in LVRC races you need an LVRC licence not a BC licence. lvrc.org.uk Races are also run under the rules of TLI (the league international) for which you need a TLI licence. TLI races are usually handicapped on age basis, but are run for all age groups, including juniors and youths.tlicycling.org.uk Racing membership for Bury Clarion is only £12 annually, and cyclists of all abilities are welcome to join. If the Hill Climb has whetted your appetite for a bit more racing give it a go - you can download a membership form for Bury Clarion from the website buryclarion.myzen.co.uk/membership If anyone needs any further clarification please feel free to contact me on [email protected] or via Facebook.
