Complete Trust Read Psalms 46:1 through 53:6 Rick sipped his breakfast coffee and clicked from one bookmarked news site to another. It seemed the headlines on every website were negative. Normally, he read the news with a certain degree of detached cynicism. But current financial woes weighed on his mind far more than usual. With retirement only a handful of years away, he and Madeline had taken the advice of their financial advisor to roll over a large portion of their retirement account into a mutual fund. Now the stock market was tanking, and it felt like they were losing money by the minute. Rick knew he could let his fear get the best of him, or he could put into practice a passage his pastor had preached on recently. We will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea (Psalm 46:2). The writer of this psalm uses hyperbole to call for a desired reaction—unshakable faith. The infinite reach of God’s power and presence and wisdom is greater than the most spectacular catastrophe. Thought for Today: Remember that God’s plans are not dependent on earthly circumstances.
