Complicated. Declaring war against the government of Singapore cannot be condoned. But conversely, civil disobedience has a long and noble tradition. It seems true that ST deliberately misrepresented the so called threat, presumably to avoid having to mention the unpopularity of the governments repressive news website regulations. But in the circumstances, ST would look weak if they did not support their writer. Is there a way out? Tighter security is the obvious response, but cracks are inevitable and likely to be exploited. In a country where peaceful organised dissent is effectively outlawed, more radical, anonymous forms of disobedience seem like the inevitable next step. Greater freedom of expression for citizens, as well as the opportunity to actually be heard voicing out by the government, would likely neuter all but the smallest fringe of supporters for hactivsm.
