Appellate body is Comptition Appelate Tribunal which was established in 2009 and final appeal lying in SC. Recent cases CCI imposed a penalty of 6700 crore on 11 cement companies for behaving like a cartel. An appeal now lies in COMPAT but COMPAT has directed cement companies to deposit 10% of penalty imposed. Cci had imposed penalty of 650 crore on DLF for abusing its dominant position by imposing arbitrary and unreasonable conditions on apartment owners. CCI can act on suo moto. It imposed penalty of 187 crore on parties rigging bidding process of supplying lpg cylinders to IOC. CCI imposed penalty of 1 lakh each on 27 film.producing companies onncharges of colluding through an associati9n to exploit multiplex owners. The comptition culture is slowly but definitly finding their feet in our country
