Concerning The Salafi Dawah in Algeria by Shaykh Azhar Sniqra Questioner: Here in the West, we are not very familiar with the affair of the da’wah in Jazaa’ir i.e. the brothers are not aware of the current affairs so if the Shaykh could kindly give us a synopsis on what is going on over there? Shaykh Azhar Sniqra (hafidhahullah): By the Permission of Allah and His Praise, the da’wah in Jazaa’ir, despite the fact that it is still in its infancy, and still in need of the major scholars and its elder scholars, I give glad tidings to my brothers of a great deal of success. Allah has given success to many of the students and seekers of knowledge from Algeria who have graduated from the Jaami’ah (the Islaamic University of Madenah). Some of them are actually our teachers and our shuyookh such as Shaykh Farkoos (hafidhahullah) and others, as well as many of them that have come later on and have graduated after this first draft and this first generation. Many of them have activities in the universities and schools for the disciplines of the Sharee’ah and likewise their classes in their masaajid. And I give you a piece of glad tidings that the majority of the masaajid in the capital are under the hands of Salafi Imaams and the da’wah in these masaajid is indeed walking upon firm footsteps, in which we return to the scholars. Surely, there is not a single day that we are disconnected from our scholars. From a long while we have remained in touch with our scholars and we still remain, from the time of the major scholars and the well-known A`immah, the likes of Shaykh Ibn Baaz, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen and Shaykh al-Albaani until today, where we are connected with our Shaykh, ash-Shaykh Rabee’ (hafidhahullahu ta’aala) and the mashaayikh of Madeenah. And indeed the amount of attention, excitement and interest in the Salafi Da’wah is, I can say, unparalleled such that some of our brothers who we have organized seminars for and they came and visited us and spoke, they have attested to this. We have invited Shaykh ‘Abdullah al-Bukhaaree (hafidhahullah) to visit us and many sittings and gatherings have been organized for him and he said that he has not seen the like of this; meaning, the like of this attendance and the like of these numbers. And this is by the Permission of Allah (Tabaaraka wa Ta’aala) and all praise is to Him. Likewise, the amount of attention to the books of the Salafis is unparalleled. If you ask the owners of the publishing houses for the Salafi books, you will find that they would admit that there is no market as profitable and as successful as the Algerian market for the sale of Salafi books. The Shaykh then made reference to the well-known exhibition in Cairo for the books of knowledge. He said even that, despite its major place in the world of publishing, is not paralleled to the amount of success that the Salafi books find in Algeria and this is by the statements of the publishers themselves. And all of this, by the Permission of Allah (Tabaaraka wa Ta’aala), returns to the blessed efforts of the scholars of the Association of Algerian Scholars that was headed by ash-Shaykh ‘Abdul Hameed al-Badees (rahimahullah) from the well-known and major scholars of Salafiyyah, ash-Shaykh al-Basheer al-Ibraaheemee (rahimahullah) and ash- Shaykh at-Tayyib al-‘Uqbee who indeed has his mark and his efforts in the da’wah; may Allah reward him tremendously. After that blessed generation, the generation of independence as they call them has come along and including in it, this blessed group who at their head is our teacher, Shaykh Muhammad ‘Alee Farkoos, may Allah preserve him and may Allah bestow His Blessings upon him. The Shaykh made du’aa for his Shaykh and then said that this is considered a synopsis of the affair of the da’wah. He then said that the mashaayikh here are in charge of a magazine called “Majallahtul Islaah” and it is Inshaa Allah, a sound and good publication.
