Concerning a conversation that developed on my gingerbread cookie posting, with Sandra Schobel and Jeffrey Stackhouse: Language is something I am a bit sensitive about. My husband knows that when I get a particularly blank look on my face that he has used a German word or phrase which I do not know. And even to this day (I have been in Germany nearly 24 years now), there are still people who make fun of my accent. Nothing more frustrating than having a salesclerk say, “I don’t understand what you want” and then smirk, as if to say, “Ha, I showed that stupid foreigner!!! And you can bet there are some stores I don’t go back to.
