Concerns over metabolic typing: Carbohydrate requirements should be largely based on energy demand I.e. training style, volume, frequency. What if an endurance athlete who trains twice a day turns out to be a "protein" type? Does that mean, that athlete is going to perform better on very few carbohydrates? Of course not. - can create an ill relationship with food, because they have been bracketed as a certain type. E.g. believing certain food groups should not be consumed or in very limited quantities. -it is very difficult to determine ones body type. We are a combination of all three somatotypes (ectomoroph, mesomorph & endomorph). A questionnaire is not going to answer this. E.g Also a predominantly ectomorophic type (typically slim & long limbed) can be over weight & therefore be perceived as an endomorph. - My final observation is there seems a lack of trial also, to see how an individual responds and then tweaked & adjustments made depending on progress to suit ones goals. - To conclude my oppinion is carbohydrate intake should be dictated by training volume, frequency & type (total energy demand) constant tracking should be in place & then tweaked according to goals and progress. E.g an individual looking to lose body fat is likely to slowly reduce & or increase energy expenditure to lose weight over a period of time. On the flip side an individual looking to build muscle would slowly increase carbohydrates & possibly dietary fat (creating a surplus of calories) assuming progressive tension overload is being applied using weights, on a consistent basis an individual will grow.
