Confidence has increased for a powerful coastal storm to impact - TopicsExpress

Confidence has increased for a powerful coastal storm to impact the northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. The evolution of this system is rather odd in that this is the same system that is effecting the region tonight through Saturday, it looks like this system once it clears the coast on Saturday will get completely cut off from the steering flow and become suppressed to the south before coming back up the coast linking with a rather strong northern disturbance swinging down from the north, this is evident in the 700 MB height fields. In fact the phasing of these two systems allows for rapid vertical development of a surface low as it becomes captured by significant energy aloft, this will keep the system hugging the coast as it begins to track northward at a very slow pace all the time becoming stronger and vertically stacked off the Southern New England coast This system is going to be capable of producing strong damaging winds, coastal flooding, windswept soaking rain and blinding interior snow, the potential for power outages may also creep into the headlines. Everyone wants to know the snow, for now all I can say is that this system will be very track dependent, that being said I do believe everybody changes to snow before its over and done, even the coast.
