Confirmed – Sami Khedira Is On His Way To Arsenal Arsenal News, Arsenal Opinion, Arsenal rumours, Arsenal Transfer News Add comments Jul 122014 When Alexis Sanchez was confirmed as Arsenal’s player prior to the unveiling of the new Puma kits on Thursday night, Ivan Gazidis made a revealing statement that the club was happy with the signing of Sanchez, but that he had to go as he has more work to do. True to that line is the report emerging that Arsenal are close to securing the signing of Sami Khedira from Real Madrid. Stan Collymore who revealed on Talksports weeks before Alexis Sanchez was signed that the Chilean was a certainty to come to Arsenal has added his voice that Sami Khedira is close to joining Arsenal. The fact he was spot on with the Sanchez deal before he was signed means there must be some element of insider information in his revelation after calling the Sanchez deal. With the addition of Alexis Sanchez, and the eminent signing of Mathieu Debuchy, together with the possible signing of Loic Remy, and Altetico Madrid right back, Manquillo, this could impact Arsenal’s season in a positive light. The albatross last season or in the last two seasons has been how the club has come up short in big games. The addition of players like Sami Khedira and others outlined above would improve the club’s chances in those big games where the quality have been lacking in the past. The quality was there to come out comfortably in the small games, but Arsenal has always come up short in those big games. Players like Sami Khedira and Alexis Sanchez will move the club up another level in terms of quality. The short comings and struggles in Europe, and in matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have not been for lack of efforts, but largely due to a dearth of attacking quality as well as midfield solidity that would have made a difference in those matches. One factor that must be considered in Arsenal’s pursuit of Sami Khedira is his relationship with Mesut Ozil on and off the field. Their onfield patternship goes way back in the German Under 21 squad where they were both part of the squad that won the European U21 championship in 2009. It is not in doubt that majority of Mesut Ozil’s best performances has come when he plays with Sami Khedira. That can be rekindled at the Emirates. And whether he has sounded out the possibility of him signing for the club at the German team camp who knows. However, is he what the club truly needs in a central midfield position. Strictu sensu, he is purely a box-to-box midfielder and seldom sits back. But, his ability to force the issue at both ends of the field is well established, but the club has always needed a player with a strong ethics for the defensive side of the game in midfield, and not a box-to-box midfielder. Though, he has the height and physicality that will alter the dynamics in Arsenal’s midfield. The fact he is not an out and out holding midfielder creates an issue. That is what the club needs not another box-to-box midfielder like Aaron Dave Ramsey
