BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MUSCOGEE CREEK NATION (District Court, 2010) HISTORY OF THE MUSCOGEE CREEK NATION Retrieved from: muscogeecreektribalcourt.org/index.php/history The American Civil War was disastrous for the Muscogee (Creek) people, by (1836 – 1837) the main body of the Creek nation was forcible removed on the Trail of Tears to the Oklahoma Territory. The reconstruction treaty of (1866) required the cession of 3.2 million acres- approximately half of Muscogee domain. It was unacceptable for the Muscogee Creeks to accept and adapt to the white man’s ways and religions. The Upper Creeks remained less affected by European influences and continued to maintain their culture ways. By (1867), the Muscogee people adopted a written Constitution that provided for a principal chief. The Daws Commission began negotiating with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for the allotment of the National Domain. For whatever the reasons may have been; taking away Tribal land was a violation to all natives across the globe, then, and now is no different of today. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Muscogee Nation are descents of the Original Creek Nation. (MCN) a union of tribes making up a larger people who once covered most of what is now Alabama and Georgia. PBCI assisted in the US Government removal of the Creek Nation from Alabama. PBCI currently reside at Atmore, Alabama and have progressed in the economy.
